Kirstie Kelly 2013 Wedding dress preview by Elizabeth Messina

April 24th. 2012 | by Erin
Clear those schedules wedding mavens. We have a day chock full of Elizabeth Messina and this Queen of Photography is sharing everything from jaw-dropping gowns to her brand new book + a giveaway and right on through to a lovely real wedding. It’s Messina Madness. But first, we’re diving head long into layers of Dreamy McDreaminess in the form of short dresses, long dresses, pretty dresses, so freaking fabulous we want to eat them dresses all crafted by Kirstie Kelly. Who is a genius. A beautiful frock making genius and we have the exclusive sneak peak of her 2013 collection right here. Let the collective sighs begin and be sure to stop by the gallery for so much more.

From Kirstie KellyAiry, elegant and timeless – the 2013 collection features beautiful Belgian lace, hand cut floral details with intricate crystal and gem beading and tiny feather weight embroidery stitches. I worked with mixing textures and colors to create cloud like romance and storytelling. While all the gowns are very detailed they don’t overshadow the bride, because they are light and airy and soft in tone. The bride always appears as a vision of beauty before noticing the details of the gown.

We had so much fun shooting the collection with Elizabeth Messina at the Hahn Estate! I feel very blessed that we were allowed to shoot in the extraordinary rooms of the estate and the gardens were a perfect backdrop for the new collection as it was inspired by both botanicals and by the brides I have worked with over the past year and what their desires were for the perfect wedding dress, There is something in this Collection for everyone, and I thank all the women who collectively were the inspiration for this line. The entire 2013 Collection can be viewed at www.kirstiekelly.com and please check out my new blog at www.kirstiekelly.com/blog.

Malibu Wedding by Elizabeth Messina Part I

March 15th. 2012| by Abby Larson

Every now and then we get our hands on a wedding so breathtaking, so pick-your-jaw-up-off-the-floor beautiful, we can hardly believe our luck. After all, we take pride in finding the prettiest of pretty fetes to fill your days with – weddings that push the definition of gorgeous and capture the spirit of the readers we know and love. And although I fall hopelessly in love nearly every hour on SMP, I’m not sure I’ve ever fallen quite as hard as I have with today’s stunner. The kind of wedding that will literally leave you speechless. In that royal wedding cranked up a few notches kind of way. With gallery-worthy photography by Elizabeth Messina, florals by Mark’s Garden, decor by Revelry Event Design and planning by the lovely Mindy Weiss, this celebration is the reason that I am obsessed with my job. And with weddings in general.

I KNOW. It’s huge. Like, I-hope-my-wedding-re-do-is-half-this-lovely huge. Half this personal. Half this warm and rich and full of texture and joy.

The wedding was held at the Malibu Rocky Oaks Estate Vineyards, a stunning, rustic but fabulous vineyard in Malibu, California. With 360 degree views of the mountains and the California coastline. For the bride, the day began with some serious R&R – a pilates class, followed by breakfast, manis and massages with the girls. Which means that not only am I a little jealous of the stunning day, I’m also seriously wishing I was a bridesmaid and got to join in on the fun. The boys, getting ready a few doors down, found their zen through a bit of football and a game or two of pool. In classic dude style.

The bride wore a custom made gown designed and made by The Row, Ashley & Mary-Kate Olsen’s designer line. A one-time only custom dress made especially for the bride. The maids wore gowns byKirstie Kelly and David August crafted the boy’s tuxes.

As for the ceremony, here’s a little note from Mindy Weiss, our friend and the lovely, lovely celebrity planner behind the day…The couple exchanged their vows on an empty dirt field that we made into a beautiful garden under a man made pepper tree that was adorned with hanging orchids and trimmed with white and cream roses. The aisle we built and stained from reclaimed wood. The guests were offered fresh lemonade in glass bottles wrapped in kraft paper with their initials handstamped!

More from the stunning reception coming up in just a bit. And for those of you that are thinking what I’m thinking (like maybe you could never in a million years afford a wedding this exquisite), well…we’ve got you covered with some awesome ideas on how to pull inspiration from this very celebration and make it your own. Coming up in a flash.
